چکیده

Implanted tumors and methylcholanthrene Carcinogenesis increase the turnover of phosphorus in the total nucleic acids of histologically normal DBA/1J mouse skin. As the implanted tumors progress for 6 days, the turnover rate of nucleic acid phosphorus in the histologically normal skin increases to 4 times that of control skin from normal DBA/1J mice. At this same time, 68% of the histologically normal skin implants from the tumor-bearing mice develop into lymphosarcomas when implanted into normal DBA/1J mice. Painting mice on the dorsum with methylcholanthrene re sults in a decrease in the turnover rate of nucleic acid phos phorus of the painted skin. However, the nucleic acid phos phorus turnover of ventral unpainted skin from the same mice is increased as painting progresses. After six weeks of painting, the ventral unpainted skin, though histologically nor mal, develops into a lymphosarcoma when implanted into nor mal DBA/1J mice. This transplantability occurs after the appearance of papillomas on the painted area.

Effect of Audiogenic Stress upon Methylcholanthrene-induced Carcinogenesis in Mice.

DBA/1 (audiogenic seizure-susceptible) and A/Jax (seizure-resistant) mice were subjected to bell-ringing sound and an approximate 80-90 per cent effective carcinogen ic dose of 20-methylcholanthrene and observed for time of tumor induction and ulti mate fate. There was a delay in the time of tumor induction (latent period) in DBA/1 mice subjected to audio stimulus as compared with DBA/1 control...

Effect of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand on the reduction of joint inflammation in experimental rheumatoid arthritis.

This study focused on the potential therapeutic effect of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) on collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) and on the elucidation of the mechanisms involved. DBA/1J mice with established CIA were treated with various amount of recombinant soluble human TRAIL. The effects of TRAIL on the development and severity of CIA in this DBA/1J mouse model...

Activation of suppressor cells by syngeneic tumor transplants in mice.

Spleen cells from mice with syngeneic tumor transplants are hyporesponsive in mixed-lymphocyte culture. The hyporesponsiveness is due to the activation of suppressor cells. Spleen from tumor-bearing mice, treated with mitomycin and added to normal mixed lymphocyte culture (with responding cells syngeneic to the added cells), inhibits proliferation of the responding cells. Suppressor activity in...

The effect of inherited factors, the milk agent, and physiological state on phosphorus metabolism of endocrine glands of mice.

It has been amply demonstrated that at least three factors—inherited susceptibility, a hormonal influence, and the milk agent—are concerned with the development of spontaneous mammary car cinomas in mice (3). Information on the mecha nisms of action of these factors is, however, inade quate. Aub, Karnofsky, and Towne (2) found no difference in the urinary excretion of estrogens and 17-ketos...
